FAQ
WHERE CAN I GET MORE INFORMATION?
Well, other than this page, you should definitely check out the Coaches Rules/Regs page. You’ll find all kinds of valuable information regarding team size, ball size, substitutions, playing time and a ton more. If you still have questions, make sure you reach out to the VP of Coaches.
HOW DO I GET MY ROSTER?
Coaches may utilize SportsPilot to view and print team rosters, manage individual player information and email players at any time other than during team formation.
WHEN SHOULD I CONTACT MY TEAM?
Typically a coach will contact their team, either by phone or email, shortly after the seasonal coaches meeting. It’s a good idea to have information like practice days/times, expectations, etc ready to relate to your team at that time.
WHEN & WHERE CAN I PRACTICE?
The VP of Fields determines practice fields, times and days for each team based on each coach’s request from the VP of Fields. Our coaches are all wonderful volunteers and as such, CSA tries its best to provide accommodating times/locations for each of our teams. Please bear in mind, CSA cannot guarantee specific field requests. Teams practicing according to their assigned day/time/field will always have precedent over teams that choose to practice outside their assignment.
WHEN & WHERE DO WE PLAY GAMES?
U5-U8 games are all played on the CSA Game Fields. For those participating in U9 and above, half the games will take place on the CSA Game Fields and the other half will take place on our NMCSL partner fields – see the Fields page for more information on our NMCSL partners. Typically, recreation games take place on Saturdays between 9am and 1pm. There may be occasion for a weeknight game, perhaps due to inclement weather, team accommodation, etc, however CSA tries its best to keep these to a minimum.
WHY DO WE NEED ASST. COACHES?
That’s easy – to ensure the safety of our kids. CSA requires all our coaches to have a background check. Should the head coach be absent for any reason, our parents feel confident that the assistant coach stepping in isn’t some crazy lunatic, or at least a convicted crazy lunatic.
WHY DO I NEED A COACHES CARD?
As another measure to help further ensure our childrens’ safety. Make sure you keep up with it, you won’t be allowed to coach a game without it. If you do happen to misplace it and need another, email our registrar for a replacement. This is mandated per NTSSA.
HOW DO I GET A COACHES CARD?
Every new coach is required to submit a background check after they register. Each fall, every new and returning coach will update their background check. When you’ve completed your background check, the registrar will issue you your coaches card.
CAN I ATTEND A COACHES CLINIC?
Absolutely! Each season CSA provides a coaches clinic for our coaches looking to receive their coaches license. In addition to these clinics, NTSSA provides several coaches clinics every year for those coaches looking to expand their coaching skills and obtain licenses beyond those offered by CSA. CSA will reimburse our coaches for the cost of obtaining any coaches license.
IF THE REFEREE IS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FIELD CAN I SUBSTITUTE PLAYERS AS LONG AS PLAY DOESN’T STOP?
No. All substitutions (U-5 to U-19) require referee approval prior to a substitution. Coaches are requested to remind players not to enter the playing field until the player that they are replacing has exited the field.
WHERE IS THE BALL PLACED FOR A GOAL KICK?
For goal kicks, the ball may be placed at any spot within the goal box area. (Note: If a player decides to move the ball from one spot in the goal area to another, it is strongly suggested that the player pick-up the ball and move it to the other spot.)
ARE COACHES ALLOWED TO LEAVE THE TECHNICAL AREA IN ORDER TO PROVIDE INSTRUCTION TO PLAYERS?
All coaching is expected to be conducted within the technical area. Every Colleyville field has the technical area clearly marked. The only exceptions are noted in the player positioning considerations discussed above.
MAY COACHES VOCALLY CHALLENGE THE REFEREE’S CALL?
Rule interpretation questions can be posed if done so in a respectful manner. Questions or comments concerning judgment calls do not qualify as rule interpretation questions. (Reference the Zero Tolerance Policy for more information.)
MAY A COACH GET WARNED FOR PARENTAL CONDUCT?
Coaches are responsible for controlling the conduct of all coaches, substitutes, parents and other parties on their sidelines. If a parent undertakes inappropriate behavior, the coach is expected to immediately address the situation. (Reference the CSA Zero Tolerance Policy for more information)
MAY JEWELRY BE WORN IN THE GAME?
No. Law 4 – The Player’s Equipment states that “A player must not use equipment or wear anything which is dangerous to himself or another player (including any kind of jewelry).” Watches, rings, necklaces, earrings, bracelets (e.g., metal, plastic or string) are examples of jewelry that is not permitted. (Note: Medical alert or religious medallions are permissible. However, this jewelry must be securely taped to the body.) Tape or band-aids will not eliminate the risk to the player or to the opponent. As such, earrings covered by tape or band-aids are not acceptable equipment under any circumstances.
MY PLAYER JUST HAD HIS/HER EAR PIERCED. THE PARENT CONTENDS THEY CANNOT BE REMOVED…
Experts have confirmed that piercing will not “close” while the earring is removed for the game or practice. As a coach, you should inform the parent(s) that the player cannot play or practice while wearing earrings. Earrings are not allowed under any circumstances.
MAY THIS RULING BE APPEALED?
No. This ruling is fully supported by the Colleyville Soccer Association (CSA), North Texas State Soccer Association (NTSSA) and the United States Soccer Federation (USSF).
